Paperweights - Up Close and Personal
Making hot glass paperweights is and excellent way to learn how to work with hot glass on a small scale. If you want to watch “up close and personal”, choose your colors and assist the glass artist while you watch your custom paperweight being made. (Plan to spend about 30 - 45 minutes.) $85 per person.
Introduction to Paperweights - Part One
If you are a little more adventurous you can make your own paperweight from beginning to end. In a three hour session with one to three other participants you learn simple techniques to create paperweights with bubbles, swirls, colored frit and dichroic glass. $125 per person. Limited to 4 students.
Introduction to Paperweights - Part Two
If the paperweight bug has bitten you in a big way then graduate to the two day intensive and get your fix.
The first day you learn about the studio equipment, safety concerns and tools of the trade. Then we discuss design options for paperweights by looking at some samples. Next, everyone will assemble and kiln fuse a glass design to be used on the second day. Then a demonstration of twisted cane, a popular inclusion in paperweights. Everyone will select their colors and make their own cane. We end the day with a demonstration on making a pinwheel paperweight and then you make your own.
The second day starts with a review of yesterdays work. Check out your fused piece, the twisted cane and of course your pinwheel paperweight. Next, we’ll use the kiln fused design from the first day to make a very different paperweight then on to using your twisted cane as part of your next paperweight. The day ends with a demonstration on making hot glass flowers. If time permits you may want to try your hand at your own bouquet! $290 per person. Limited to 4 students.
